After visiting Badlands National Park you must visit Crazy Horse, a site that also represents our American southwest. The fact that we had second thoughts about visiting here boggles our minds. There are so many aspects to Crazy Horse Memorial — a gifted sculptor with a great goal, a modern visitor complex telling the story of how and why the colossal Memorial is being created, an informative film in the theater, a restaurant that overlooks the mountain, native artists and crafts, historic portraits of American Indians, the sculptor’s studio home and workshop and the larger-than-life size bronze of Korczak’s Fighting Stallions that balances on one tail. All of the above is in tribute to the magnificent sculpture of Crazy Horse being carved out of the mountain, started by Korczak Ziolkowski, acclaimed storyteller in stone. The finished work will be a three dimensional masterpiece measuring 563′ x 641′. The Indian chief and his spirited war horse will be longer than a cruise ship and taller than a 60 story skyscraper.
